Bills waste no time bringing in a familiar face for some much-needed insurance after injuries continue to derail the roster
Bills Mafia has mixed feelings about the recent addition.
The Buffalo Bills aren’t done adding to the roster just yet, even if it’s just the practice squad. Another day, another injury for the Buffalo Bills, which forces their hand to make moves. Linebacker Matt Milano reaggravated his pectoral injury, and head coach Sean McDermott said the team was taking it on a week-by-week basis.
While the team has signed linebacker Jimmy Ciarlo to the 53-man roster, it’s also bringing back a familiar face in linebacker Baylon Spector to the team’s practice squad. Spector has plenty of experience with the Bills, despite his own checkered injury history.
With fellow linebacker Dorian Williams out for the Week 5 contest against the Patriots, and Milano getting injured, it reads more like an emergency insurance option for the Bills, one they might be forced to use sooner rather than later. The team moved quickly after Milano’s setback, adding reinforcements less than 48 hours after the loss to New England.
Spector returns home to Buffalo
Spector was a seventh-round pick by the Bills in the 2022 NFL Draft and has started in four games for the Bills. He’s earned one and a half sacks, 52 combined tackles, and two tackles for loss during his tenure on the team.
The Bills waived him in August of 2025 with an injury settlement, but he has since returned to the team’s practice squad after not finding a home anywhere in the league. Spector has had three calf injuries in less than a year, which gives fans cause for concern on his return to Buffalo.
In 2023, he missed two games with a hamstring injury and another with a back injury. Spector was placed on the injured reserve by Week 9 of the 2024 season and re-injured his calf during Week 16, forcing him to miss the rest of the postseason.
Spector’s return gives Buffalo some much-needed depth at linebacker as the team continues to battle through a wave of injuries early in the season.
