Bills waste no time with surprise roster move ahead of Week 8 matchup against the Carolina Panthers
Maxwell Hairston is back, after just one week of practice he’s been activated.
Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott said the fan base would need to temper their expectations when it comes to first-round draft pick and cornerback Maxwell Hairston.
Well, after just one week of practice, the team made the surprise move by activating the talented cornerback ahead of the Week 8 matchup against the Carolina Panthers. With Hairston’s activation, there’s a real chance that Hairston will see some playing time in the upcoming matchup, as reported by Adam Schefter on X.
It wasn’t the only roster move the team made ahead of the game. With some injuries to the defensive backfield, the Bills decided to activate safety Jordan Poyer for the Week 8 game. There’s a good chance that Poyer will start alongside Cole Bishop, with Taylor Rapp being placed on injured reserve and sidelined for at least the next four games.

Not only that, but Buffalo was forced to once again call up defensive tackle Jordan Phillips after some injuries to the defensive tackle room. Luckily, some reinforcements are coming for the Bills in defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi, who is set to play in his first game after being suspended for the first six weeks of the season.
Alongside Ogunjobi, edge Michael Hoecht is expected to get some meaningful reps in as well.
Buffalo is battling through some injuries, with a handful of players being questionable for the game against the Carolina Panthers. Tight end Dalton Kincaid and linebackers Matt Milano and Terrel Bernard are questionable for the contest, and the team has already ruled out wide receiver Josh Palmer and defensive tackle DaQuan Jones.
Hairston being back in the fold will go a long way toward long-term success for the organization. Bills Mafia has to be thrilled at the potential to get the first look at Hairston in action. The rookie suffered a noncontact knee injury during training camp but has ramped up quickly after the team opened the 21-day practice window.
The move doesn’t guarantee that he will be active and play, though it is likely, as Sal Capaccio reported. If Hairston does see some action, it could very well be on a snap count limit.
If Hairston does see the field on Sunday, it would make a major milestone in his recovery and a key step toward solidifying Buffalo’s secondary for the stretch run.
