The Buffalo Bills are a talented football team on both sides of the ball.
They have a top five quarterback in Josh Allen. They have some impressive weapons at wide receiver and tight end. The depth does need to improve at those positions, though.
That being said, there has been a glaring hole for much of Allen's time in Buffalo.
He hasn't an a truly impactful running back alongside him.
Devin Singletary has shown to be capable at times for the Bills, but the inconsistencies still show through.
They could use an upgrade. The 2023 NFL Draft provides them with a really solid opportunity to do exactly that.
The Bills need to draft a running back with one of their first three picks.
Now, using their first-round pick on an RB may not be the best choice, considering the help needed along the lines.
Jahmyr Gibbs from Alabama would be my top choice for Buffalo in this year's class. Gibbs is projected to go anywhere from the end of the first round to the middle of the second round in April.
The Bills should look to either take him with their first-round pick, or make a move to secure a top pick in the second round.
It may make the most sense for them to trade back out of the first and into the top of the second. That is, if a team is willing to make that deal with them.
No matter what – Josh Allen needs more help from the running game of the Bills.
He cannot sustain a top-line level of play in the postseason without sustained success by a running back. The players they have in the building have proven that they cannot accomplish that.
Buffalo needs to be aggressive in helping Allen in order for the Bills to see more postseason success.
Regardless, the need is clear, and there is great talent at running back in rounds two and three in this year's draft class.
