Bryce Young needs someone in his corner.

After the Carolina Panthers fell to 0-6 heading into the team's bye week, Aaron Rodgers went on The Pat McAfee Show to defend the rookie quarterback and his team that has underachieved to this point in the season.

"I think they have a quarterback for the future," Rodgers said on Tuesday's episode of the show. "They’re a young team. There’s going to be some growing pains for all those guys. I hope that that staff sticks around because I think it’s really well-put-together staff on both sides of the ball. And I hope that they just have some patience because they have some pieces, but they obviously need a few more pieces in order to compete and be relevant.”

Rodgers met with Young during the preseason when the New York Jets played the Panthers. The future Hall of Famer had some words for the rookie then.

After that meeting, Rodgers said Carolina is in "good hands."

“I like the kid a lot,” Rodgers said. “We share an agent, so I’ve known about him for a long time. I loved watching him in college. I like his demeanor. I like his movement. I like the way he throws. I trust a guy like (Carolina wide receiver) Adam (Thielen). Him and I are good buddies for a long time. And he just raves about him, so I think Carolina’s in good hands.”

But the franchise has yet to see the best of Young. Much of his style of play at Alabama hasn't translated as seamlessly as many scouts and general managers around the league thought.

Still, in recent weeks, Young has started to show some signs of life. He had a three-touchdown day when the Panthers played the Detroit Lions in Week 5. He followed that up by leading the Panthers to a 14-0 lead over the Miami Dolphins.

And most recently helping Young is Panthers head coach Frank Reich electing to hand the play-calling duties off to offensive coordinator Thomas Brown, who is a member of the Sean McVay coaching tree.

Young said he was excited by the shift. And Reich admitted it was probably time for a change in the days that followed the decision.

As the Panthers try to navigate life with a rookie quarterback, Young at least has one Hall of Famer in his corner for the foreseeable future. That has to help.
