"The Panthers stayed in touch with Young’s representatives throughout the search," Joseph Person of The Athletic writes. "A source close to Young and his representation said the No. 1 pick is optimistic about Canales and likes that he’s young with a strong track record with quarterbacks."

It is clear that behind the Panthers' decision is the hope that Canales can get Young's career back on track.
The former offensive coordinator has played a role in rebuilding Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith. He then moved on to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he rescued Baker Mayfield — a finalist for the AP Comeback Player of the Year.
Young, who had a horrible rookie season, needed a fresh voice. Canales is that. And it is the new head coach's belief in Young that is the No. 1 reason the Panthers hired him in the first place.
