National outlet gives a hilariously wrong reason the Carolina Panthers won't make the playoffs

Pro Football Focus is resting all of the Carolina Panthers’ playoff hopes on the shoulders of quarterback Bryce Young.

Though few are predicted the Carolina Panthers will make the playoffs in the 2024 season, Pro Football Focus has a reason the team won't make the cut.

Recently, the national outlet put out a list of every NFC team's one reason it won't make the NFL's ultimate test.

For the Panthers, Pro Football Focus claimed if Bryce Young isn't any better in his second year, the team won't get close to playing meaningful football as fall turns to winter.

"Year 2 of Bryce Young’s NFL career will be pivotal — not just for him but also for the Panthers," Pro Football Focus' Gordon McGuinness writes. "New head coach Dave Canales, as well as the additions of Diontae Johnson and Xavier Legette at wide receiver, will give the 2023 first overall pick a chance to take a step forward. Still, his 56.0 PFF grade last year ranked 37th out of the 39th quarterbacks who dropped back at least 200 times, so there’s a long way to go."

If Carolina doesn't make the postseason a large shoulder of the blame belongs to Young. However, it won't be all of it.

Central to Young's struggles during his rookie year was the lack of protection from the offensive line, no production in the pass-catching game from wide receivers and tight ends, and coaching staff dysfunction.

Young's rookie season was disappointing, but it was far from all his fault. Any rookie quarterback would have struggled in that situation.

Following a shift in the front office, the hiring of Dave Canales as a quarterback whisperer, investments in the offensive line, and the drafting of a legitimate wide receiver No. 1 talent, if Carolina fails to make the playoffs it will be because several systems failed – not merely Young.

Blaming Young for everything feels right. He disappointed as a No. 1 pick during his rookie season while players like C.J. Stroud found near-immediate success. But much like everything in life, Young's struggles require context. Moving forward, that same context need-be applied as well.
