Sometimes Cam Newton just says some stuff that baffles you. He did that again in New Orleans this week when he went on to potentially number one overall pick Travis Hunter's podcast to talk about what it's like to be the first pick in the draft.

The problem is that in his explanation, he crapped on 52 of his former teammates including legendary receiver Steve Smith.

"When I was the first pick, I went into a room full of losers. Just honest, like, guys didn't know how to win. Guys didn't know how to prepare. They didn't take themselves seriously to realize, like, Yo, we was 2-14. There was a lot of  2-14 in the mentality of those guys. You know?" Newton said. I" want to win yesterday. I'm here to win, I'm here to win a Super Bowl. So when your intensity is like that, and you talking to a cat that's like, 'Man, I can't wait to go to Miami.'  what are we doing? You know, I'm saying like it was a culture shock for me, because the games don't mean a lot to a lot of people in the league like you would expect. It's just money. I'm saying not everybody has capabilities to be impact players. They're just players. So realizing that, transitioning that, how can I still keep myself going in a room full of mediocre players that just like they just happy to be on the team?"

Ok, there's a lot to unpack there from Newton. First off, it doesn't make a ton of sense. Yes, the Panthers were 2-14, but that team had a lot of players left over from the 2008 team that just two years earlier went 12-4.

Jordan Gross, Jon Beason, Jonathan Stewart, DeAngleo Williams and Steve Smith among others were on that 12-4 team and clearly knew how to win. Speaking of Smith, he took offense to Newton's comments and took to Twitter to voice his feelings on the matter.

It's a shame to see Newton turn on his Panthers teammates like this after this team banded together and went to the Super Bowl in 2015 and helped Newton win the league MVP. Newton has not responded to Smith yet for what it's worth.
