Former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is open to returning to the franchise.

But his return, this time, wouldn't be on the football field.

Newton was asked on Thursday's episode of the 4th & 1 with Cam Newton whether he would be open to an ownership stake in the Panthers organization. Though he didn't fully commit to the idea, the 35-year-old didn't completely rule it out either.

"I can’t say no, because I don’t know what it would look like," Newton said of if he would be open to an ownership stake. "I don’t know if flying back and forth to Charlotte would be something reasonable. But granted, it’s a 45-minute flight.”

Newton could offer a unique perspective to a team with a young quarterback attempting to take a step forward.

It is an advantage the former quarterback knows he possesses.

"I don’t think there has ever been a player that can be relatable to both sides in Carolina," he said.

Already, Newton has been someone willing to offer support to second-year quarterback Bryce Young, who has few believers these days.

In April, Newton gave Young assurance that his voice was needed in the locker room if Carolina was going to become the best version of itself on the football field.

"He needs to understand that voicing his opinion is important," Newton said then. "You have to. Every offensive coordinator asks their quarterback this question: Game on the line, 3rd-and-four, 3rd-and-eight, got to have it situation, who would you prefer to throw the football to? He needs to have those answers for that. Bryce needs to be open to doing that."

In September 2023, Newton stuck his neck out for Young amid the struggles of his rookie season, professing he "believes" in Young.

"I think you have to raise him with care," Newton added. "I think a person like Bryce could be scarred, just like any other quarterback could be scarred, if thrown to the wolves too early, right?”

With Newton already on Young's side, a theoretical move into some form of partial ownership could be one of intrigue for the former Panthers great.

Newton has not expressed formal interest in owning a portion of the Panthers. So though theoretical, it still is a fun thought experiment.
