It was a sleepy night for the Carolina Panthers as they took on the Chicago Bears in Thursday Night Football.
Carolina sputtered to a 16-13 loss, and it was another game in which rookie quarterback Bryce Young didn't meet the lofty expectations that come with being the No. 1 overall pick.
Young finished the game with 185 yards, completing 21-of-38 passes while averaging a pedestrian 4.9 yards per play. Snooze. After the game, Young said that he was frustrated, just like everyone else. But frustration doesn't produce improvement. Regardless, it is the same story he always falls to when another week goes by, and he doesn't look any better.
“We’re all frustrated," Young said. We have to be better. I have to be better, first and foremost. I have to be a lot better.”
It is the same story he's said all year — he has to be better. Whether it is coaching, Young's abilities, or something else, the rookie isn't living up to the bill.
Young still hasn't passed the 200-yard marker in two straight games. And though he didn't throw any interceptions, he did very little to move the needle as the Panthers dipped to 1-8 on the year.
"It’s a work in progress to find what that disconnect is," Young said. "We all have to look in the mirror, we all have to figure out what we can do to help.”
Through Week 10, everything still looks and feels like Young simply has no chance.
Ihmir Smith-Marsette scores on a 79-yard punt return, first Panthers punt-return TD since 2017
Ihmir Smith-Marsette did something that hadn’t been done in a Carolina Panthers uniform since 2017 Thursday night against the Chicago Bears.
