The layers of Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young's interceptions keep growing.

After watching the film Monday, Panthers head coach Frank Reich took his share of the blame for Young's two interception day. However, it came out after the game that the Atlanta Falcons safety Jessie Bates III knew what the Panthers were going to do merely by the lack of vertical threats present for Young and his offense.

“He likes to throw the ball inside the hashes,” Bates said. “Both of them were two-by-two (formation), similar routes, trying to hit that dig in the middle of the field.

"Our coaches do a really good job of making (film) cut-ups, and we do a good job as players of taking that and watching it together and seeing the concepts they like to run. This week it was a bunch of inside breakers, so I was able to make a couple plays on those.”

Here is a look at each interception:

What didn't help was that the Panthers allowed Bates free roam in the secondary because he wasn't worried about getting beat deep.

That was an element of the game that Reich said his team needed to improve on the most from week to week.

Despite claiming two interceptions off Young, Bates still believes that the Panthers are in good hands with their quarterback, regardless of what the state sheet may say.

“I felt like we had a jump on him,” Bates said. “He’ll be a really good quarterback in this league, but today we got the best of him. I remember playing my first game. I can only imagine what it’s like for a quarterback playing his first game. That’s a lot of pressure.”

Still, it says something that Young, without playing in a regular season game, was already at a disadvantage the moment he stepped on the field.
