Bryce Young is feeling the pressure.
The 2023 No. 1 overall pick played a putrid rookie season as the franchise's starting quarterback, and his lack of production got former Carolina Panthers head coach Frank Reich fired.
Now under Dave Canales, Young is feeling confident in his abilities and recently made a claim to TMZ Sports that ought to encourage those who are rooting for a resurgence from the Panthers.
"I feel like I've grown," Young said. "I've learned. I'm excited to improve this offseason. Get better at some things. I'm excited for year 2."
Young has to improve in his second year. The fate of the Panthers is depending on it.
The hiring of Dan Morgan, Canales and the host of assistant coaches brought in are all indications that the Panthers are expecting to get the most out of Young in 2024.
Canales has a history of recuperating a quarterback's career. First, there was Geno Smith in Seattle, and during the 2023 season, Canales helped rebuild Baker Mayfield's confidence.
Now, he has to do the same with Young.
The franchise must. With no first-round draft pick, the success of Young is paramount, or things could get even darker for the Panthers if it doesn't work out for Young.
In his rookie season, Young threw for 2,877 yards, 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. That will have to change if Carolina is going to be any better come the fall.
Dave Canales admits the realistic struggles he will face as Bryce Young’s head coach
For all the good Dave Canales promised the Carolina Panthers in his introductory press conference, there is still the worry of how he will fair as Bryce Young’s head coach.
