Several hours after news broke that the Carolina Panthers were trading star edge rusher Brian Burns to the New York Giants for a second round pick and a fifth round pick, country music superstar Luke Combs called out the Charlotte-based franchise for their lackluster decision making in recent years.
"Panthers WHAT ARE WE DOING?!?!? No first round pick for McCaffrey a few years back and now none for Burns?!?! Are we just fire bombing the whole team here or what? I usually don’t comment on these kinds of things but it’s just becoming slow torture at this point," wrote Combs on Twitter/X.com.
In 2022, the Los Angeles Rams offered the Panthers a first round pick in 2024, a first round pick in 2025, and a second round pick in 2025 for Burns.
Carolina rejected the deal. And as a result, they received far less in compensation for the two-time Pro Bowler than what they were offered less than two years earlier.
The Panthers have been a disaster under owner David Tepper. A revolving door of head coaches, questionable trades that have hurt the franchise's future, and bad free agent signings have left Carolina as possibly the worst franchise in the NFL.
It's hard to blame Combs for his rare "outburst".
First attempt for the Panthers to replace Brian Burns’ production is waiting for them on the free agent market
Panthers should take a shot on him.
