Daewood Davis, a standout wide receiver for the Memphis Showboats, will have his opportunity to play in the NFL again.

The Carolina Panthers will sign Davis, who has spent with the Miami Dolphins before his stint in the UFL this spring.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport first reported the news Thursday.

Davis, 6-foot-2, tallied 41 receptions for 446 yards and five touchdowns with Memphis. He finished seventh in the league in receiving yards and tied for second in touchdowns. For his play, he was named to the All-UFL team.

He first broke into the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Dolphins after a standout college career at Oregon and Western Kentucky.

With Western Kentucky, Davis hauled in 106 receptions for 1,605 yards and 15 touchdowns.

The Panthers' roster is already reshaped at the wide receiver position. Carolina traded for former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson early in the offseason. Carolina also ensured it retained veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen, who was the best option for Bryce Young during the 2023 season.

Through the draft, the Panthers also added Xavier Legette, who has quickly become a fan favorite.

It will remain to be seen if Davis makes the final 53-man roster for the Panthers. That is far from a guarantee. However, as the summer wears on, it will be an interesting storyline to follow.
