The house around Frank Reich looks like it is beginning to crumble.
After another embarrassing showing, this time against the bottom-dwelling Chicago Bears, the Carolina Panthers owner, David Tepper, is frustrated with the offense and how the team has developed around rookie quarterback and No. 1 pick Bryce Young.
In a recent column from Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the constant disappointments are really beginning to upset the team owner.
"I am told Panthers owner David Tepper is frustrated by this offense and its lack of improvement," Russini writes. "Some in the building believe the roster hasn’t been built correctly, while others criticize the offense overall. This is an offense some league sources have described as 'boring,' 'predictable' and even 'lifeless.'"
Reich had to know this was coming. He has oversold and underdelivered on the season.
The Panthers brought him in to be the offensive voice in Young's ear. Instead, he has produced a bottom-half offense that struggles to score points against nearly every team it plays.
Ownership isn't going to put up with underperformance much longer.
"I’m told the message in the building is, 'Ownership needs to see more progress on offense.'" Russini writs. "'There needs to be development and improvement.'”
If things continue as they are, Reich's days in Carolina appear numbered already.
