Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel knows what it takes to have a good offense.
He's the genius behind Miami's record-setting offensive production during the last two seasons. So, when he compliments an offensive player, his opinion means a little more than his counterparts.
McDaniel on Wednesday spoke to reporters, where he had nothing but good things to say about Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young, who has struggled through the first five weeks of the 2023 NFL regular season.
“A baller with a bright future,” he said. “He’s one of the few young quarterbacks that you see coming out that sees defenders when operating as a quarterback. His vision is uncanny and his timing and rhythm to the game — you can see that he’s going to be a very good player in this league, in my opinion.
“There’s nothing more difficult than being a rookie starting quarterback. In that process, you learn live speed. What I’ve seen is a guy that’s showing his talent through the rhythm of plays and showing certain things with regard to how he moves. He’ll continue to get better and better at it. Extending plays, and throws a very catchable ball that’s built for YAC.
“There’s a reason why the guys that he’s played with in college, that how much respect they have for him. If you don’t believe me, just ask any Bama player. And then you can tell why he’s earned the respect of not only other rookies but veterans on that team.”
McDaniel's word appears to be true. Early in the summer, Young earned the respect of the veterans on the Panthers roster.
He was then named the starter after one day of training camp in the late summer. Since then, the on-field production has been sub-par, but if McDaniel's assessment means anything, Young could be turning a corner any day now.
The Dolphins will have a front-row seat to watch Young and his offense as the team attempts to win its first game of the season on Sunday.
