The Carolina Panthers are expected to have an active offseason after taking a big step forward in 2025.

Carolina won the NFC South and made the playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade.

A loss at home to the Los Angeles Rams in the first round of the playoffs, however, shows there’s still work to be done before the Panthers are a true contender in the NFC.

Pro Football Focus names top cut candidate for the Panthers

The Panthers made a big move last offseason by signing defensive lineman Bobby Brown to a three year deal worth $21 million.

Carolina made the move in an effort to improve in the trenches, but Brown didn’t quite live up to expectations.

As a result, Pro Football Focus named Brown as one of the Panthers’ top cut candidates this offseason.

“The Panthers signed Bobby Brown III to a three-year, $21 million contract a year ago, but the former Rams defensive tackle struggled in his first season in Carolina,” noted PFF’s Thomas Valentine. “Brown compiled a 56.7 PFF grade, 74th among defensive tackles, and had the lowest PFF run-defense grade of his career (61.1). Brown is at the bottom of the pecking order on a Panthers defensive line that still needs some work, and cutting him could save the team $4.3 million against the cap. He’ll get a fresh start elsewhere.”

Carolina needs to be aggressive this offseason as they look to capitalize on the momentum they built during the 2025 season. Not every signing is going to hit, but finding a way to quickly move on from bad signings is something Panthers general manager Dan Morgan will need to excel at. And moving on from Brown certainly seems like an easy decision.
