Despite the lack of statistical production from Bryce Young during the NFL preseason, many reporters and analysts have been impressed with the intangible level of Young's game.
Young's best game came against the Detroit Lions when he finally found the back of the endzone. In that game, the No. 1 overall pick completed seven of his 12 passing attempts for a preseason-high 73 yards.
His game garnered praise from David Carr, who said Young is the most impressive rookie quarterback thus far.
"These deep crossing routes—they’re not easy,” Carr said on NFL Network’s Total Access. “You gotta layer that ball a little bit. The ability to step up in the pocket—a lot of young guys are not sure what they see. They kind of bailout to their throwing arm side. I don’t necessarily see him do that a lot.
"I give the edge to Bryce right now. I am excited about Bryce right now."
Young is the Panthers' franchise guy, and already, he is making plays that veteran quarterbacks tend to.
Panthers head coach Frank Reich is impressed with how Young has improved week-to-week, and after the Lions game, he detailed that Young is a special player with a special feel for the action on the field.
"He has that instinct," Reich said after the game. "He has that ‘make you miss,’ like, even when a guy has him dead to rights. We’ve seen that in practice—little snippets of that. He has that little stop-start-stop hesitation move that’s hard to figure out. So, that was good by him.”
With the praise Young is garnering from top analysts, the Panthers are clearly in good hands for the season to come.
