The name of the game is getting Bryce Young more weapons.
It is clear Dan Morgan and Dave Canales are staying on top of the mission.
After trading down, the Panthers traded back up to select running back Jonathon Brooks out of Texas with the No. 46 overall selection. To land that selection, the Panthers traded pick No. 52, No. 142 and No. 155 to the Indianapolis Colts.
What the Panthers get in RB Jonathon Brooks
Brooks burst onto the scene during the 2023 season after he was stuck behind Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson on the depth chart at Texas.
He is now the first running back off the board during the 2024 NFL Draft. During the 2023 season, Brooks appeared in 11 games, ran for 1,139 yards and racked up 10 touchdowns. He tore his ACL at the tail end of the season. However, Ian Rapoport said he is expected to be good to go at the start of the Panthers' training camp.
Brooks has a good speed profile as well. He can kick into high gear almost instantly when he wants to. Once free, Brooks doesn't have elite home-run speed, but he can threaten 20-plus-yard runs any time he is in the open field.
His selection early in the second round will make the running back room interesting as Chuba Hubbard enters a season where he is thinking about a second contract and the Panthers still owe a depth of money to Miles Sanders.
Still, the pull to get Young help was a must. As a result, Morgan saw a deal he liked and took it. Can you blame him?
