The Carolina Panthers have a sports car they aren't letting loose.
That sports car in question is Bryce Young. And between a vanilla playbook, a shaky offensive line, and the team wrapping up the second preseason game of the year, it isn't shocking that the No. 1 overall pick hasn't gotten an opportunity to show what he can really do yet.
Despite the limited opportunities, Young is still trying his best to learn from every moment he spends on the field.
“It’s limited opportunities, but you gotta make those count,” Young said. “And I think just listening to coaches stressing urgency of every situation, every down. Again, you get a limited amount of reps in the preseason, but you have to make ’em count. And because of that, there’s a lot of emphasis, a lot of strain to be the best we can.”
Young completed three passes against the Giants for 35 yards. In total, he has thrown 12 passes in two games during the preseason.
Talk about limited opportunities.
Still, the limited throwing chances haven't planted any doubt in the organization. Panthers outside linebacker Justin Houston told reporters after the game that the team, with Young, is "in good hands."
So despite Young's rather uneventful preseason, many in the organization aren't worried. They have liked what they have seen so far.
