Bryce Young has always held himself to an aura of optimism.

But after losing to the Miami Dolphins 42-21 following a quick 14-0 start, the Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback was honest about where his team currently is and how it made him feel.

"It sucks where we’re at it," Young said. "It’s not anyone’s goal. It’s not where we wanna be. But regardless of that, I don’t think that this isn’t something that I don’t lose any confidence in. I don’t feel any different about the team. We’re in a tough place, and it’s difficult.

“But, there’s no locker room, no group I’d rather be here with. There’s no group I have more confidence in to dig ourselves out of this.”

Young was painfully honest about the position that the Panthers are in — 0-6, with any prospect of having a competitive season slipping from its grasp.

Still, some moments should be noted as Carolina slogs through another unintentional rebuild year.

The first quarter was the best quarter of football Young has played in his NFL career.

He led two scoring drives that allowed the Panthers to stun the Dolphins. One of those drives included a touchdown pass from Young, who looked efficient and confident within Carolina's simplified offensive scheme.

Young ended the game with 217 yards, going 23-for-38 on throws. But the rookie isn't after personal validation. He is desperately searching for his first win at the professional level.

Yet, that is proving far easier said than done for the former Alabama standout.

"It's tough," Young said solemnly. "It is obviously not where we want to be. But we got to keep building, growing, finding things to improve on."
