Panthers are expecting to have franchise legend Cam Newton back in attendance for Saturday’s playoff game for a special reason
It’s going to be a mini 10-year reunion at Bank of America Stadium.
The Carolina Panthers will be back competing in the playoffs against the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday for the first time since 2017, ending a seven year playoff drought for the franchise.
Not only that, the Panthers will be the home team at Bank of America Stadium after clinching the NFC South title and No. 4 seed in the NFC despite an 8-9 regular season record.
Even still, vibes are at an all-time high in the Carolinas with the home team back in the playoffs and no one should be overlooking any team in the postseason. And to help invigorate the home crowd on Saturday, the Panthers are expected to have a franchise legend back in the building.
Cam Newton expected to attend Panthers’ playoff game, will hit the Keep Pounding drum
On Wednesday, the Panthers posted a teaser for Saturday’s game against the Rams that included a unique font in the caption and a familiar voice. That voice was former quarterback and Panthers legend Cam Newton, who’s expected to be the drummer ahead of kickoff.
It’s the first game Newton will attend at Bank of America Stadium since his final game as a player in 2021, during his second stint with the organization. Newton hasn’t been on the best terms with his former team over the last few years, but it seems time heals all wounds.
The Panthers, meanwhile, believe they have themselves a new franchise quarterback in Bryce Young, who earlier this season broke Newton’s single-game passing record. After hearing the news, Young noted it was “definitely an honor” and soon after Newton showed his respects as well.
“From one Carolina Panther, who once was, to a current Carolina Panther – I’m proud of you, bro,” Newton said on on his 4th&1 YouTube show. “Keep rocking and rolling.”
On Saturday, Newton will lead the “Keep Pounding” chant and be in the building supporting the young quarterback making his first playoff start. And Newton won’t be the only legend in attendance.
Mini 10-year reunion for Panthers hosting a playoff game once again
Along with Newton, two other members of the 2015 Super Bowl team will be at Bank of America Stadium, although for other reasons, making it a little mini 10-year reunion.
Former tight end Greg Olsen will be commentating the game as part of Fox’s broadcast team and former linebacker and soon-to-be Hall of Famer Luke Kuechly will be up in the booth as well calling the game for Panthers’ radio network.
The atmosphere is going to be absolutely electric and the Panthers are hoping that kind of energy can lead to the team’s first playoff win since that historic 2015 season.
