It took losing to the Miami Dolphins after leading by 14 points for Frank Reich, the Carolina Panthers head coach, to see the writing on the wall. 

Monday afternoon, it was reported that Reich would hand over play-calling duties to offensive coordinator Thomas Brown after balking at the idea earlier in the season.

The news regarding Reich was first reported by Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoportof NFL Network. 

It wasn't a complete surprise that Reich relinquished play-calling duties. Reports suggest that the coaching staff will be judged on whether the offense can improve without Reich calling the plays. 

Reich, earlier in the season, was deadset on calling the plays. However, with the Panthers' offense looking stagnant — and rookie quarterback Bryce Young struggling — it was evident a change was needed. 

In recent weeks, the Panthers "simplified" the offense for Young, which led to the rookie quarterback throwing four touchdowns in his last two contests. 

Still, the Panthers offense has lagged, which wasn't supposed to be the case after Reich was hired to be an offensive coach paired with a rookie quarterback. 

With Brown, the Panthers will have a new voice calling the plays. The bye week will give the team time to adjust to the offensive coordinator's voice as the lead playcaller.

As for the results, well, those will be seen in Week 8 and onward.
