When Carolina Panthers linebacker Frankie Luvu left the game Sunday with a hip injury, many feared the worst.
Already, the Panthers were without CJ Henderson and Xavier Woods on defense. On the offensive side of the ball, the Panthers lost wide receiver Jonathan Mingo to a concussion.
As the injuries mounted, hope dwindled. But a recent update about the linebacker has put the Panthers in good spirits. Luvu isn't expected to miss any time.
Luvu, in the game where he sustained his injury, was a newly appointed captain in the wake of the Panthers losing linebacker Shaq Thompson for the season.
Against the Seattle Seahawks, he managed 38 snaps in his new role before he left the game due to a hip injury. In that time, he totaled four tackles.
The more concerning portion of the Panthers' injury news is that Woods is expected to miss four to six weeks worth of time with his hamstring injury.
Carolina's secondary is already thin as it is. Without Woods for an extended period of time adds another wrinkle to the Panthers' struggles that have landed the team with an 0-3 record.
Already, Carolina’s secondary is already without cornerback Jaycee Horn, who is recovering from a hamstring injury of his own.
The Panthers may have dodged one bullet, but the other was following not far behind.
