The Carolina Panthers may go the non-traditional route with the team's next head coach.

Former Carolina Panther tight end Greg Olsen would be interested in coaching the Panthers if the team approached him, a report from The Athletic's Joseph Person and Richard Deitsch said.

Olsen is the current color analyst for Fox's No. 1 NFL crew. Due to his limited coaching experience, his hire would be right up David Tepper's alley but also a grave mistake.

Olsen would be a hire that indicates, though he is a Panthers legend, the team still isn't serious about being a competitive football team.

Most of Olsen's coaching work has come in his son's youth football leagues. More is needed to coach at the NFL level.

When Matt Rhule was fired, it was clear his lack of NFL coaching experience failed him. His tenure as a head coach is what set the Panthers on their current trajectory.

Frank Reich was an attempt to veer in the opposite direction. But that was short-lived. Olsen's hire would show that the Panthers are addicted to flash more than substance.

In essence, Olsen may be interested. But Tepper shouldn't be.
