As the Carolina Panthers get set to host a joint practice with the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday, the team learned that they will be without top cornerback Jaycee Horn.

According to the team’s official website, Horn was involved in a car accident outside Bank of America Stadium on the corner of Mint and Morehead Street Wednesday morning on the way to the team facilities. No one involved was transported for medical attention, according to Joseph Person.

The specific injury Horn sustained has not yet been revealed by the team. Although, Horn was evaluated by the team’s medical personnel, who decided to hold him out of the joint practice.

With Horn sidelined, opportunity rises for the other cornerbacks on the roster going up against the Browns’ offense later today. Keep an eye on players such as Mike Jackson, Shemar Bartholomew, and Akayleb Evans. At the nickel position, Chau Smith-Wade continues to make a strong impression.

Other Injury Updates

As for some good injury news, second-round rookie defensive end Nic Scourton was seen in pads on Wednesday after missing time due to a hamstring injury, the same goes for top defensive tackle Derrick Brown, who been dealing with bruised ribs. We’ll soon see how much work, if any, the two players get in later today.

As for wide receiver Hunter Renfrow, head coach Dave Canales provided some updates following Tuesday’s practice regarding his hamstring injury that has left him sidelined the last few days.

“He is doing great,” Canales said of Renfrow. “He’s in return-to-play right now with our training department. He’s running, he’s cutting. I think it’s just the load of practice that we’re just trying to be smart on, and just get him completely healthy so we can really see him in these games. And I feel really strongly that he’s there, but I think it’s more of a capacity thing.”

Following Wednesday’s practice, the Panthers will have a scheduled day off on Thursday leading up to Friday’s preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns. Caution and patience are key when it comes to these various injuries at this point in the season.
