The Carolina Panthers landed a top-30 visit with Western Michigan star edge rusher Marshawn Kneeland, Bleacher Report's NFL analyst Ryan Fowler reported Monday.
Kneeland visited the Kansas City Chiefs and has visits scheduled with the New Orleans Saints, Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers, Jacksonville Jaguars and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Panthers' interest in Kneeland comes as no surprise.
On the first day of legal tampering in the 2024 NFL free agency window, the Panthers traded outside linebacker Brian Burns to the New York Giants.
They also lost linebacker Frankie Luvu to the Washington Commands and edge rusher Yetur Gross-Matos to the 49ers.
Kneeland allows the team to replace the talent lost on the defensive side of the ball.
Kneeland stands 6-foot-3, 248 pounds. He totaled 12.5 sacks and 28.0 tackles for a loss during his four seasons in college. He earned a second-team All-MAC nod in 2023 after posting 7.5 sacks.
There is something about his game that is resonating with the Panthers. As Dan Morgan attempts to rebuild the defense, getting an up-close look at Kneeland is a must.
He is the second known top-30 visit for the Panthers, who also have met with USC wide receiver Brenden Rice, the son of Jerry Rice.
