The Carolina Panthers managed to open up yet another roster spot Thursday morning.

The Panthers announced that tight end Stephen Sullivan was placed on injured reserve. The 26-year-old pass-catcher missed the preseason due to a hip injury, and that will carry over until the regular season.

Sullivan somehow made it through roster cuts Tuesday despite being injured. He's played in 14 games over the past two seasons. He totaled a pair of receptions for 46 yards on seven targets.

With Sullivan starting the year on the injury reserve, the Panthers are free to make an additional move to sure up other positions on the roster.

One of the positions the Panthers plan to look at is signing a veteran offensive line if it is the right guy.

So, though having anyone on the injury reserves list isn't ideal, the Panthers may have lucked out in having the ability to add one additional talent to a group that needs it.
