It only took until Week 15 for the Carolina Panthers to finally change their tune when it comes to rookie quarterback Bryce Young.

With the season a wash and Young regression, Panthers offensive coordinator Thomas Brown is pushing more accountability on Young, whose footwork and inconsistency have doomed his rookie season.

"The Panthers are trying to do more to get him going," Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated wrote. "With QBs coach Josh McCown gone, Jim Caldwell is now in the quarterback room every day, and interim coach Chris Tabor has pushed, in colorful language, for a tougher approach with the quarterback. The good news is that, as I’ve heard it, OC Thomas Brown was already an advocate for pushing more accountability with the team’s No. 1 pick."

It took all year, and Frank Reich getting fired, for the Panthers to get serious about Young's shortcomings.

He hasn't improved, mainly because the previous regime wasn't hard enough on the rookie.

What is confusing is Young has always vocalized his accountability, but it hasn't led to any meaningful on-field changes.

The idea of benching Young was floated around at times during the season, but interim head coach Chris Tabor doesn't believe it will yield positive results for the rookie.

“Well, I think one way to become a better football player is playin’ football,” Tabor, who was asked about sitting Young for veteran Andy Dalton, said. “That’s a pretty simple statement. The only way you’re gonna gain experience in the National Football League is by playing.

“And I have a tremendous amount of confidence in Bryce. And I know that there’s plays that he’s gonna want back. But, no, that hasn’t come into play.”

Young has been given a long runway to "play." At some point, the Panthers must get serious about seeing results from the No. 1 overall pick.
