Panthers' trade chip eager to rekindle his value around the NFL
Miles Sanders is looking for a bounce-back season heading into 2024.
Miles Sanders knows the 2023 season wasn't up to his standards.
But that is all past him now.
During the offseason, the Carolina Panthers beefed up the competition at the running back position, placing Sanders on the outside looking in. However, the NFL veteran isn't running from the competition. He's embracing it.
"We all try to help each other learn the playbook and making sure we all know our stuff when we get out there,” Sanders said. "We’ve had chemistry since I got in here last year. Starting with Chuba, Raheem, and now we got Jonathon and we got Penny in there too. The guys are great. We all get a long very well. We compete."
The poor 2023 season for Sanders was due to a myriad of reasons. Poor offensive line play. Injuries. A lack of a passing game to take pressure off production on the ground. It all factored into Sanders' lackadaisical play.
That has to change in 2024. But for Sanders, it may change without him being in a Panthers uniform.
Carolina paid Sanders a pretty penny during the 2023 offseason. The Panthers inked the veteran running back to a four-year, $25 million contract. That is a steep price to pay for a running back who managed only one rushing touchdown a year ago.
Carolina also added a running back in Jonathon Brooks through the draft, making Sanders a player on the outside looking in.
Still, he is competing – like everyone else trying to make the roster. Regardless of what happens, Sanders appears ready for what may come.
"I'm just blessed to still be here," he said. "It's year six and I'm ready to go."
Currently, Chuba Hubbard appears to be on the fast-track to being the team's starter.
