Panthers secondary gets no love in latest position group rankings
The Carolina Panthers secondary is getting no love from Pro Football Focus in the outlet’s latest position group rankings.
The secondary is still a question for the Carolina Panthers.
In an offseason of change, the Panthers didn't necessarily focus all its resources on restocking the secondary. Still, Carolina added Jordan Fuller, who has been a productive piece of previous defenses.
Still, as a result, Carolina ranked No. 25 in the league, according to Pro Football Focus' latest ranking.
"The Panthers have the potential to be much higher on these rankings. Jaycee Horn is uber-talented, but injuries in two of his three seasons have prevented him from making a big impact," John Kosko writes. "Xavier Woods had a career year in 2023, posting an 80.3 overall grade. They’ve made some additions this offseason — safety Jordan Fuller being the standout — that should provide veteran leadership and young depth."
Ahead of the 2024 season, the Panthers defense will most likely be its calling card. That means the secondary will have to overplay its perceived value on paper.
Despite the Panthers' lowly secondary ranking, the team still sits ahead of the Los Angeles Rams (No. 26), Minnesota Vikings (No. 27), Indianapolis Colts (No. 28), Jacksonville Jaguars (No. 29), Washington Commanders (No. 30), New York Giants (No. 31), and Arizona Cardinals (No. 32).
