Amid the ongoing search for a head coach, the Carolina Panthers are bringing in two NFC coaches who could be viable candidates to lead Bryce Young and company into the next version of the team.
The Panthers are holding in-person interviews for Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris and Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dave Canales, NFL Network's lead insider Ian Rapoport reported on X.
Recently, the Panthers filled a hole in the front office by promoting Dan Morgan from assistant general manager to general manager.
Morris is a candidate who reshaped his resume after fizzling out in the early 2010s. He joined Sean McVay's coaching staff in January 2021.
Since then, he has helped construct a Super Bowl-winning defense and, during the recent coaching cycle, has drawn attention from several possible head coaching positions.
Canales is an intriguing candidate. In his first season in Tampa, Canales' scheme and game plans helped QB Baker Mayfield have a huge bounce-back season. Mike Evans also had his best season in the last five years, earning AP second-team All-Pro honors. Rachaad White looked like a legitimate three-down back with 1,539 yards from scrimmage.
The Panthers are looking to rebuild around Young, who had a poor rookie season, making the interest in Canales' quarterback resuscitation skills an intriguing point for the Panthers.
He also has a history with Morgan, who is sitting in on all head coaching interviews as the newly hired general manager.
Panthers hire Dan Morgan as next GM, start of a new era
After deliberation, the Carolina Panthers announced Monday evening the hire of Dan Morgan as the team’s next general manager.
