It wasn't long ago that Carolina Panthers' star Derrick Brown dominated backfields in the Southeastern Conference for Auburn.

A lot has changed. But for Brown, the Panthers' four-year, $96 million man, his mentality remains the same.

After a career 2023 season, that saw him tally 103 tackles, one interception and a Pro Bowl appearance, Brown doesn't plan to change his game at all. With a contract that locks him up through the 2028 season, the 25-year-old plans to double down on exactly what brought him so much success.

Brown racked up 15 quarterback hits and two sacks. His approach may not be changing, but he wants to be even more dominant up and down the defensive line.

“It depends on how the games go," Brown said to reporters Wednesday. "It’s one of those things where you only get so many opportunities. It’s a focus of mine, 100 percent. Just being a dominant player and being able to wreck games is a focus of mine. But going into the season, I’m not gonna abort the defense in order to try and go get mine. I’m just gonna play within the system.”

Brown isn't one to be boisterous. He isn't one to make wild proclamations about himself. He tends to stay even-keeled.

That allows him to find so much success on the football field.

He is now the unquestioned leader of the defense. And he is paid exactly like it. But to Brown, soon-to-be 26, nothing much is changing in his approach.
