ESPN's Adam Schefter has reported that Carolina Panthers center Austin Corbett is out for the remainder of the season after suffering a ruptured biceps tendon during Week 5's loss to the Chicago Bears.
Corbett is yet another key starter to go down for the Panthers this season. They lost star defensive end Derrick Brown for the year back in Week 1, and wide receiver Adam Thielen is currently on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.
Corbett transitioned from guard to center this season and was playing well. A seven-year veteran, Corbett signed with Carolina in 2022 after winning Super Bowl LVI with the Los Angeles Rams. Unfortunately, his time with the Panthers has seemingly been cursed as this is the third consecutive year that Corbett's season has ended early due to injury.
In Week 18 of 2022 Corbett tore his ACL, costing him the first half of the 2023 season. About a month after his return, he tore his MCL in the same knee. Now with his injured biceps, he'll miss the final 12 games of 2024. Brady Christensen came in for relief of Corbett and will likely be his replacement moving forward.
Corbett's NFL future is uncertain moving forward as he heads towards free agency. He'll be 30 years old at the beginning of next season and coming off of three major surgeries. His 64 career starts provide valuable experience, but he may not be ready to go by Week 1. A one-year "prove it" contract is likely what Corbett will have to shoot for, with an eye towards 2026 for getting another long-term deal.
