Despite the second joint practice between the Carolina Panthers and New York Jets being canceled because of weather and safety concerns, that didn't stop veteran quarterback Andy Dalton from singing Bryce Young's praises.
Reporters asked Dalton about the progression seen in Young since the start of training camp in late July. And all the sentiment the 13-year veteran could muster uplifted Young as the Panthers' quarterback of the future.
“Bryce is made up the right way,” Dalton said to Joe Person of The Athletic. “He’s done a great job since he’s been here. I’m excited to see how his career starts and everything he’s able to do this year.”
The Panthers knowingly brought in Dalton to mentor the Younger quarterback they were planning to bring in. So though Dalton's primary job while on his two-year, $10 million contract is being a viable backup, another is guiding the future of the franchise toward a direction of success.
It seems that veteran quarterbacks only have good things to say about Young.
Aaron Rodgers, the new-look quarterback for the Jets and future NFL Hall of Famer, admitted that he likes Young as a player. He even went as far as stating the Panthers are "in good hands."
"I’ve known him for a long time," Rodgers said. "I love watching him in college. I like his demeanor. I like his movement. I like the way he throws."
As the expectations for Young build, he will have an opportunity to put his skills on display on Saturday when the Panthers take on the Jets in the team's first preseason game.
So far, Young has done nothing but impress, making Saturday an even more intriguing matchup.
“Be gentle with yourself,” Rodgers said when asked what advice he'd give Young. “It’s a long journey. It feels like every little snap and practice is the end of the world if it doesn’t go right. It’s just not true.
"It’s a long journey. It’s about holding on to your confidence and enjoying the ride and doing the little things every day. But I think he’s got a good head on his shoulders, and he’ll be just fine.”
