Though the 2024 NFL Draft recently finished, stories are already turning to 2025.

Recently, Ryan Wilson, with CBS Sports, put together a way-too-early 2025 mock draft, and he has the Carolina Panthers seemingly giving up on the Bryce Young experiment after this season.

With the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Wilson has the Panthers drafting University of Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders – the son of NFL legend Deion Sanders.

Here is what Wilson had to say about the selection:

"If nothing else, using the betting odds means that, for the third straight year, the Panthers have the No. 1 overall pick. Hopefully first-year coach Dave Canales can get the most out of Bryce Young, but if that doesn't happen … you'd have to imagine quarterback at No. 1 (for the second time in three drafts for Carolina) will be a talking point.

"Shedeur Sanders made huge strides in his first year as an FBS QB and he'll be in the conversation with several other players to be the first quarterback drafted."

If Carolina is picking No. 1 in the 2025 NFL Draft, something during the 2024 season went wrong.

Also working against this selection is Deion Sanders not listing the Panthers as one of the preferred landing destinations at the NFL level of his son's talents.

Shedeur Sanders threw for 3,230 yards and 27 touchdowns during the 2023 season. Colorado finished the year with a suspect 4-8 record, missing out on a bowl game.

Still, having Shedeur Sanders play for Charlotte would bring some juice to what has been a lifeless few years for the Panthers. The likelihood of its happening remains low, but it is an interesting thought experiment were it to play out.
