Carolina Panthers safety Jeremy Chinn is expected to miss six weeks, NFL insider Adam Schefter reported Wednesday morning.
Chinn suffered what is being described as a "significant" quad injury, which does not need surgery but will take time to heal.
Making matters worse, Chinn is in a contract year and is expected to be a free agent come the 2024 offseason.
When healthy, Chinn is one of the Panthers' better defensive players. He has started all six games this season and started 11 games last year, missing six games with a hamstring injury.
There were rumblings that Chinn could be traded at the Oct. 31 trade deadline. With his recent injury, however, plans may have changed.
It also didn't help that Chinn hasn't played nearly as much as he did in the three previous seasons. He's only been on the field for around 50% of the Panthers' defensive snaps.
Now, with an injury, he will be missing a lot more time.
