After weeks of speculation, reports suggest that the Carolina Panthers are telling teams not to call if they are inquiring about team captain Brian Burns.

The Panthers have said outside linebacker Burns isn't available, indicating that despite no contract extension, Burns is here to stay for the foreseeable future, said Dan Graziano of ESPN.

"The big name in Carolina is edge rusher Brian Burns," Graziano writes, "but teams are being told he's not available."

Burns is playing out the fifth season of his rookie contract. Earlier in the season, it was believed the Panthers could get a deal done, but the two sides have not discussed a new deal since the second week of the season.

With no contract and no trade imminent, it appears that the Panthers are willing to play out the string with Burns, indicating that the team may be open to franchise-tagging him in the offseason.

However it plays out, one thing appears evident — the Panthers don't want to see their Pro Bowl outside linebacker playing for anyone else this season.
