It isn't exactly a secret that the Carolina Panthers are interested in University of South Carolina wide receiver Xavier Legette. 

The South Carolina product has been candid regarding the Panthers' interest in him throughout the draft process. 

Carolina doesn't possess a first-round pick, barring any trades made in the days leading up to draft night or the day of. However, Legette recently admitted that the Panthers told him if he is available at pick No. 33 at the start of the second round, the franchise is going to select him. 


“I’ve met with the Panthers about four or five times. The relationship, it just keep continuing to grow," Legette said to John Crumpler of USA Today. "They really hoping that I can make it to the second round. They keep on telling me if I’m sitting at (pick) 33, they’re going to take me.”

Carolina has been deadset on rebuilding the wide receiver room. During the heat of free agency, the franchise pulled the trigger on trading for former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson, who was once a 1,000-yard pass catcher. 

Then the Panthers' coaching staff admitted in a pre-draft press conference the team's interest in rebuilding the wide receiver room from the ground up

Legette could be the building block of which the Panthers craft the wide receiver room around. 

The Panthers have an interest in the South Carolina product. Now it is a matter of days until we see if Carolina was merely talking or if the franchise's word to Legette was the truth.
