Xavier Legette named the Carolina Panthers' most dangerous addition, and that shouldn't be a surprise as to why

As the Carolina Panthers continue to retool, the franchise's wide receiver of the future is Xavier Legette.

The South Carolina product boasts physical attributes that make him someone football purists drool over. Already, his presence looks as though it made a difference for quarterback Bryce Young.

For all that Legette brings to the table. His viral accent included. The 23-year-old pass catcher was labeled as the Panthers' most dangerous addition by Bleach Report's Ryan Fowler

"Legette looks the part of a starting NFL receiver at 6'3" and 227 pounds, and he racked up more than 1,200 receiving yards at South Carolina last fall," Fowler writes. "He should contribute in a variety of ways early as a rookie."

Detractors of Legette have always talked about his late bloom. They aren't wrong. However, often, the criticism lacks context. The 2023 season was the first in which the Mullins, South Carolina, native was given the full reigns within the offense. He didn't disappoint.

Additionally, Legette has a mentality that any offense coach in the NFL would love out of a star receiver.

"It's my ball or nobodies," Legette said after being drafted by the Panthers. "I want to make those plays, man. I want to make those plays 100 percent of the time."

The synergy between Young and Legette is already growing. After the first week of OTAs, Young could only bring up how impressive Legette was as a receiver

"That combination of size, speed, how explosive he is, the way he comes out of routes. Yeah, it’s something that I gotta get used to,” Young said. “We’re working on getting that timing down but I’m super excited.”

It is easy to see a world where Young and Legette become one of the most entertaining one-two duos in the NFL. Carolina won't win a Super Bowl, barring a miracle, in 2024. However, Legette is sure to be a dangerous threat in the passing game.
