How does Justin Herbert look post-contract?
Herbert signed a 5-year, $262.5M extension this offseason. This will be his first meaningful NFL game since signing that long-term deal. The Chargers are counting on him to be the guy who can get them over the hump. To this point, he hasn't been that. Will he still be motivated to go above and beyond with his new deal in hand?
3 players to keep an eye on:
WR Quentin Johnston: The rookie struggled with some mental lapses and drops during the preseason. Still, he's a big-play threat and could prove to be a contributor in the red zone for Los Angeles. He's listed behind Mike Williams, Keenan Allen and Joshua Palmer on the depth chart, though.
CB JC Jackson: A top free agent acquisition a season ago, Jackson suffered a torn patellar tendon in his right knee in Week 7 of 2022. He was not on the injury report at all this week, indicating that he's good to go in his return after missing most of the 2022 NFL season.
RB Austin Ekeler: It's been a tough year for running backs. Ekeler agreed to a revised contract that kept him happy after requesting a trade during the offseason. Kellen Moore confirmed that Ekeler will be "the guy" for the Chargers in 2023. What exactly will that look like in the new offensive scheme? That remains to be seen.
