The Chicago Bears are in a unique position heading into the 2023 NFL Draft after trading back to the No. 9 overall pick.
The Bears made significant improvements across their roster during free agency, but the team’s biggest splash could come in the draft. In a recent article released by ESPN, draft expert Matt Miller believes Chicago could land one of the most dominant defenders in recent memory.
That player is Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter.
From Miller: "ESPN's Adam Schefter reported this week that Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter would not take visits with teams selecting outside the top 10. Scouts and executives around the league weren't surprised. "More players should do this, honestly," said one college scouting director. When asked to predict Carter's landing spot, more than 10 scouts and execs polled believed he would be drafted at No. 5 (Seattle Seahawks) or No. 9 (Chicago Bears). And no one polled thought he would slip out of the top 10 picks."
It's important to note that Carter met with the Bears on Monday, according to Schefter.
Carter’s stock has slipped a bit over the last few months for various reasons. With an early run on quarterbacks expected at the top of the draft, many experts believe Carter could make it all the way to Chicago with the ninth overall selection.
The Bears have invested loads of money into their defense, but drafting Carter would serve as an immediate upgrade on a run defense which struggled mightily just a season ago.
