A much maligned Chicago Bears player made a statement this week that fans will (or at least should) love.

Just before the trade deadline last season, Bears general manager Ryan Poles traded a second round draft pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers for wide receiver Chase Claypool.

Claypool, who turned 25 earlier this summer, showed potential during his first two seasons with the Steelers, catching 121 passes for over 1,700 yards and 11 touchdowns during his first two years in the NFL.

Unfortunately for the Bears, Claypool struggled after arriving in Chicago last season. The former Notre Dame standout caught just 14 passes for 140 yards in seven games with the Bears.

Claypool will be a free agent after the 2023 season so he has plenty of motivation to get back on track this fall. And that's what Claypool intends to do — though it's not just because he wants a lucrative contract next offseason. More than anything, Claypool just wants to win.

According to Bears beat reporter Daniel Greenberg, Claypool said this week that he wants to prove his supporters right and his doubters wrong. He also said that that more importantly, he wants to win the NFC North this season and reach the playoffs.

"Obviously it’s my contract year but it’s a year where I have to prove all my supporters right and my doubters wrong but more important than that we have to make the playoffs and we need to win the division," said Claypool.

Claypool obviously has a lot to prove after the disappointing end to last season.

But if you're a Bears fan, you have to love the attitude that Claypool has entering the 2023 season. He's motivated to play better personally and he has a team-oriented goal centered around playing post-season football.

Claypool's saying all the right things. Now he has to go deliver on Sundays once the season starts.
