The Chicago Bears continued to show a commitment to improving the defensive line and, more specifically, the pass rush by signing DE Rasheem Green to a one-year deal on Thursday.
Green brings five years of experience to Chicago and is coming off a 2022 season with the Houston Texans in which he registered 42 tackles, 3.5 sacks and five TFLs. It’s important to note that Green was able to cause an impact while playing in a rotational role.
It’s likely that Green will find himself in the same role with the Bears, but in today’s NFL it’s impossible to have too many pass rushers. What makes this move even sweeter is the fact that Bears GM Ryan Poles inked Green to a cost-effective contract.
Green’s deal will be worth up to $2.75 million. His base salary comes in at $1.5 million with a $350k signing bonus and $500k guaranteed.
Though Green’s numbers from last season won’t jump off the page, he did record 6.5 sacks in 2021 while playing with the Seattle Seahawks. On such a team-friendly deal, Green will have a chance to exceed his contractual value on Chicago’s defensive line which totaled an NFL worst 20 sacks last season.
