The Chicago Bears might be closer than originally thought to making one final splash in the free agency pool.

The Bears did well to address numerous positions of need through the draft. Of course, this comes after Chicago dished out some lucrative contracts to impact players in free agency such as LB Tremaine Edmunds, OLB T.J. Edwards, RG Nate Davis, DE DeMarcus Walker and more.

The Bears’ biggest weakness last season was in the pass rush. Chicago ranked dead last in the NFL with only 20 sacks. To put that into the proper perspective, the Philadelphia Eagles led the league with 70.

The good news is that help could be on the way for the Bears. General manager Ryan Poles commented on the possibility of adding another pass rusher through free agency in a Friday appearance on 670 The Score’s Bernstein and Holmes Show.

“We’ll see, we’ll see,” Poles said. “We’re working on it. We don’t stop working and looking at different avenues to bring players in. There are some options, potentially trade options. There’s also some guys on the street still that could potentially come in and help us.

“Maybe something will happen sooner rather than later.”

There are a handful of veteran pass rushers still on the market who could make an instant impact with Chicago. Former Bears Leonard Floyd and Robert Quinn are a couple of names that come to mind. But players like Yannick Ngakoue, Frank Clark and Jadeveon Clowney are the big fish still remaining in the pond.

Poles could also consider a trade to acquire a premier pass rusher. After all, he hasn’t been shy to make major deals in his time as the team’s general manager. Washington’s Chase Young could be an attractive piece, especially after the Commanders declined to pick up his fifth-year option. The Jets' Carl Lawson could be another option via trade.

Though training camp is getting closer by the day, there is still plenty of time for the Bears to address their most pressing need. If Chicago can add the right guy, the roster will start to look like that of a potential NFC North contender.
