The Bears signed DE Rasheem Green to a one-year deal on Thursday, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Green has five years of NFL experience after being drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of USC.
Green spent his first four seasons in Seattle before signing with the Houston Texans last offseason. In 2022, Green played a rotational role with the Texans, though he did start in five games. He registered 42 tackles, five TFLs, 3.5 sacks and eight QB hits.
While his 2022 numbers aren’t too shabby, Green was coming off of a career year in 2021. In his final season with the Seahawks, Green recorded 48 tackles, six TFLs, 6.5 sacks and 15 QB hits – all of which were career highs.
Standing at six-foot-four and 280 pounds, Chicago is adding a lengthy pass rusher with plenty of experience. Green is set to turn 26 years old this offseason, meaning his best years could still be ahead of him.
General manager Ryan Poles has made plenty of splashes in free agency to improve one of the worst defenses in the NFL last season. You can never have too many pass rushers in this league, especially for a team coming off a season with a league-worst 20 sacks.
