The Chicago Bears checked off four large boxes on their offseason checklist Thursday night. The Bears announced that they had signed four of their 10 draft picks to rookie contracts with the club.
Linebacker Noah Sewell, cornerback Terrell Smith, defensive tackle Travis Bell and safety Kendall Williamson each signed four-year deals with the Bears.
Sewell arrives in Chicago after being drafted in the fifth round as a direct result of the team’s trade with the Baltimore Ravens featuring Roquan Smith. In three seasons at Oregon, Sewell registered 218 total tackles, 20.5 TFLs, 7.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and two interceptions.
Smith is an interesting player to watch who stands to add depth to Chicago’s cornerbacks room. The Bears' fifth rounder ran a 4.41s 40-yard dash and at 6’0” 200lbs, he possesses the size necessary to hang with physical wide receivers at the next level. In 2022 at Minnesota, Smith registered 38 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, one interception and passes defensed.
Bell, a seventh-round pick, has a unique story as the first player to ever be drafted out of Kennesaw State. He’s already become a fan-favorite in Chicago after fans learned about his passion for the game. Bell totaled 34 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks for the Owls in 2022.
Williamson is another player to keep an eye on in training camp. He was a first-team Academic All-American out of Stanford. He also was one heck of a defender. In his final two years with the Cardinal, Williamson totaled 117 tackles, six tackles for loss, one sack, one interception and three passes defensed.
General manager Ryan Poles isn’t wasting any time signing his second draft class. The quicker Poles can ink these 10 players, the faster they can begin the assimilation process as offseason activities are officially underway.
