The Chicago Bears have already filled in a handful of holes on its roster through free agency. The 2023 NFL Draft provides yet another opportunity for the Bears to bolster its roster and answer some of the team’s remaining questions.

Chicago’s No. 9 overall pick is the perfect chance for general manager Ryan Poles to find a top-level prospect who can start in his rookie season. With needs along the offensive and defensive line the most glaring, one recent mock draft believes the Bears will opt to bolster the protection around Justin Fields.

There are two prospects in particular who fit the bill for Chicago: Ohio State’s Paris Johnson Jr. and Northwestern’s Peter Skoronski. Poles recently mentioned his affinity for finding local talent capable of helping the Bears.

Considering Poles’ recent comments, it makes sense for The Athletic to mock Skoronski to Chicago.

From The Athletic: The Bears need help up front and have a home-grown stud who should be good at tackle and could fill a need at center or guard. He’s that talented and versatile. He was more impressive athletically at the combine than many anticipated, vertical jumping 34.5 inches and broad jumping 9-7 (both second-best among O-linemen). The one thing he may be missing is ideal length for a tackle, with 32 1/2-inch arms, but he should be a standout interior lineman.

Skoronski’s versatility should be looked at as a major plus for Chicago. Who dealt with a handful of injuries in the trenches last season. Skorosnki is dominant in the run game, which serves to benefit Fields as well as newly signed RB D’Onta Foreman, who is likely to split duties with Khalil Herbert.

Drafting an offensive lineman in the top-10 isn’t going to be considered a sexy pick by any means. But for what the Bears currently need, Skoronski would be a home run selection for Chicago.
