The Chicago Bears have been one of the NFL’s busiest teams over the last two weeks.
With a blockbuster trade for the No. 1 overall pick in the draft and some major splashes in the free agency pool, the Bears have drastically improved its roster. That being said, one major entity believes Bears general manager Ryan Poles could have one more franchise-altering move up his sleeve.
Pro Football Focus’ Sam Monson recently released an article listing possible trade destinations for some of the game’s biggest names. In the story, PFF links one generational talent to Chicago: Titans RB Derrick Henry.
This is what PFF had to say about Henry’s potential fit with the Bears:
"Trying to find willing trade partners for a 28-year-old running back with almost 2,000 career carries and a salary cap number in excess of $16 million this season is a major challenge, but there are teams out there that could see it as the kind of move that puts them over the top. Henry is the kind of unicorn at the position that changes the rules of everything we know about running the football in the modern NFL, which could well extend to the kind of career lifespan he will have as a running back. In today’s arms race of elite teams looking to win a Super Bowl, there may be a side willing to do what would seem reckless in the past to get over the hump. Henry has averaged 3.7 yards per carry after contact for his entire career."
Along with the Bears, PFF also names the Arizona Cardinals and Buffalo Bills as potential fits for the superstar running back.
Henry’s name was brought up in trade rumors following the combine, though the initial report was refuted by CBS' Jonathan Jones. However Tennessee’s new GM Ran Carthon has made it clear that he’s taking all calls this offseason as the team is entering what many speculate to be a transition year.
Coming off of a Jones Fracture injury in 2021, Henry bounced back with 349 carries for 1,538 rushing yards (4.4 AVG) and 13 touchdowns last season. Henry also added career highs in receptions (33) and receiving yards (398).
Although Henry is one of the most dominant running backs since the turn of the 21st century, his age could water down the Titans’ asking price if they are willing to move on. The Bears make for a particularly interesting fit as the three-time Pro Bowler would be reunited with his old Titans running mate, and newly signed Chicago Bear, in D’Onta Foreman.
