The Chicago Bears have made numerous plashes in the free agency pool, but there’s reason to believe GM Ryan Poles might not be done.

Chicago has upgraded multiple positions of need this offseason. The offense has added play-making pass catchers, a starting right guard in Nate Davis and D’Onta Foreman to fill the void David Montgomery leaves behind.

With the offense coming along nicely, Poles made sure to sign linebackers Tremaine Edmunds and T.J. Edwards. He also added edge rushers DeMarcus Walker and Rasheem Green.

But for a team who finished dead last in the NFL in sacks last season (20), the Bears could benefit by making one more sizable splash.

With the free agency pool now drying up, few players capable of starting are still remaining. However there is one player the Bears should take particular interest in, according to NFL Network’s Jeffri Chadiha.

Chadiha names Yannick Ngakoue as a free agent Chicago should kick the tires on.

“When you look at the Bears – 20 sacks last year,” Chadiha said. “They’re trying to get that defense up, still need help on the back end. You bring in a guy, who is not a great run defender, but he gets after the quarterback and can help them right away, even on a veteran one-year deal.”

Ngakoue (28) has bounced around the league, playing for five teams in seven seasons. That being said, he’s produced everywhere he’s been.

In fact, Ngakoue has registered at least eight sacks in every season since entering the league in 2016. In 2022, Ngakoue totaled 9.5 sacks in 15 games with the Indianapolis Colts. With the Las Vegas Raiders in 2021, Ngakoue tallied 10 sacks in 17 games.

Durability is another factor that set s Ngakoue apart from many pass rushers around the league. He’s played in at least 15 games in each of his seven seasons, which is a rarity these days, especially for a defender.

If the Bears are truly committed to revamping its pass rush in 2023, Poles should at least check in on the most dangerous pass rusher left on the market.
