Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields has plenty of expectations this season. Last season was a bumpy ride, but he showed elite athletic traits, and his supporting cast was less than ideal for a young QB. Now, he has a top wide receiver in D.J. Moore, and he'll have another NFL offseason under his belt.
It's easy to find positives for his development going forward. As far as his fantasy football outlook, he's a great option at his position for folks. One ESPN analyst, Mike Clay, believes that Fields could have a Jalen Hurts-type of fantasy season this year for the Bears. That would probably mean a large uptick in offensive production as a whole for Chicago, too.
Fields appears to be on a very similar trajectory to Hurts. Hurts was super-aggressive as a passer (top five in aDOT each of his first two seasons) and rusher (led all QBs in carries, rush yards and rush TDs in 2021) before exploding into a fantasy's top-scoring QB (PPG) with an improved supporting cast in his third season. Very similarly, Fields was second in aDOT during his first two seasons, ranked no lower than second in QB carries, rush yards and rush TDs last season and landed himself a clear No. 1 wide receiver in DJ Mooreduring the offseason. Fields showed his ceiling with eight consecutive top-seven fantasy outings in 2022 and is well positioned for a big leap in Year 3. — Clay
That'd be exciting for both Fields and Chicago. Hurts' projection was not necessarily where he ended up last season. He had a special year. That being said, it's tough to truly doubt a player like Fields/Hurts.
Their competitive nature and physical abilities are enticing at every turn. The Bears need to do everything they can to help Fields produce this season. Year three can be special for the Bears starter.
